Santa Clara River Reserve
St. George, Utah
The first of many new trails in the Santa Clara River Reserve have recently been completed. The Barrel Roll Trail, almost 6 miles long, is now open to mountain bikers and hikers. Black Brush Trail is over 4 miles long and is also open to equestrians and hikers. Both trails can be accessed from the new Cove Wash Trailhead off Stucki Springs Road.
The trails and trailhead were funded in part from the Utah Division of Parks and Recreation Non-Motorized Trails Program.
The Santa Clara River Reserve, located in western Washington County, Utah, consists of 6,500 acres of public lands. Since 1997, the Bureau of Land Management, Ivins City, and Santa Clara City have been working cooperatively to manage the Reserve to protect sensitive resources and open space.
Additional trails, trailhead development and rock art protection projects are planned for 2007 in the area known as Land Hill and will again be partially funded by Utah?s Non-Motorized Trails Program. Future projects will also include motorized, as well as mountain bike, hiking and equestrian trails.
