Wynne Zaugg & Barb Metzger, founders of Hacienda de los Milagros offer new life and a second chance to these homeless burros. "We consider it an honor to be part of the rescue mission although we continue to struggle with the necessity of it. Their trust and unconditional love is humbling and brings tears to our eyes."
But burros are just part of the family at the sanctuary. As you may know, horses, in particular, too often end up in slaughter houses when no one wants them anymore or can’t care for them. Many of them have been badly abused and are in critical need of rescue. Hacienda de los Milagros answers the call.
Barb and Wynne welcome all animals who would otherwise meet a cruel fate. At the sanctuary, they enjoy a loving, caring home and family where they can live out their natural lives freely and in peace.
These animals have so much to teach us about unconditional love if we but listen. Each is unique with its own gifts and personality.
There is no breeding at the sanctuary. Wynne and Barb believe there are far too many animals who need homes now. Nor do they place animals for adoption because their lives have been so disrupted and they need and deserve a stable home.
As this article is being typed, those at Hacienda de los Milagros are looking forward to the day they can move to a yet-unknown larger facility, one with a more natural setting.
Barb and Wynne believe education is the key in changing attitudes and behavior. Their message is simple and clear – respect the rights of all animals (human and non-human) to live in peace and dignity.
"In November, 1997, we were joined by Dreamtime, a sanctuary near Austin, Texas," says Wynne Zaugg. "We are honored to welcome them as part of Hacienda de los Milagros."
Hacienda de los Milagros is an IRS tax exempt corporation which totally depends on community support. All contributions are used strictly for the animals. There are no salaries paid.
